Originally written in Hindi as ‘Ret Samadhi', the book is translated into the English language by Daisy Rockwell. ‘Tomb of Sand' is set in northern India and follows an 80-year-old woman in a tale the Booker judges dubbed a "joyous cacophony" and an "irresistible novel".
In northern India, an eighty-year-old woman slips into a deep depression after the death of her husband, and then resurfaces to gain a new lease on life.
