Created by the famous American illustrator, Eric Carle, The Mixed-up Chameleon is a picture book designed for children. This book attempts to educate children on the differences between various animals by presenting a morally enlightening story that features a chameleon. Once readers are introduced to the fact that a chameleon has the ability to change colours, the story is given a interesting twist.

The author depicts a chameleon who suddenly finds out one day that it can change not only its colour, but also its size. Ecstatic, the chameleon now tries hard to imitate each and every animal it comes across. In this way, readers are taken through pictures depicting different animals, which are placed in contrast to the pretentious chameleon that looks humorously disfigured in its attempt to be like every other animal.

The Mixed-up Chameleon imparts important lessons with the help of colourful pictures and a humorous story. It portrays the hilarious escapades of the chameleon as it tries to shape its body in the same way as other animals. The moral of staying true to your nature is strongly emphasised by the author throughout his story.

The Mixed-up Chameleon was published by Penguin UK in 2000, and is available in the form of a paperback.
